About Turning Point – Closed

Turning Point Treatment Center was out in Franklin, Pennsylvania, sitting on a big quiet patch of land right by the Allegheny River. It’s kind of out of the way, which actually seemed to work for what they used to do here — helping people take a step back from all stages of addiction. They could help you detox and keep you comfortable with meds like buprenorphine or naltrexone if you needed it. If you’re past that, they had longer-term programs. Some people stayed 90 to 120 days if they really needed that kind of time. However, they have since closed.

What It Felt Like Here

From what I can tell, the place was structured but not suffocating. They mixed group therapy, one-on-one time, and family sessions if you wanted to bring people into the process. I saw that they used all the usual behavioral therapies and brought trauma into the conversation. They leaned on 12-step work quite a bit. If you weren’t ready or able to stay overnight, they also had outpatient and intensive outpatient options.

Who They Helped

It wasn’t just one kind of person here. They saw teens, adults, veterans, women who were pregnant or postpartum, LGBTQ+ folks, even people who’ve been through court or probation. They’re used to helping people who were dealing with mental health stuff at the same time as addiction, so you didn’t have to hide that.

What Stood Out in Franklin

The campus was pretty big, about two dozen acres, and it was quiet along the Allegheny River. There were different areas for men and women — the women’s building was called the Freedom Center and it was more private. There was a gym, some rec rooms, and they even helped you work toward a GED or build up job skills while you were here.
