About Tule River Alcoholism Program

Tule River Indian Alcoholism Program is a tribal initiative led by the Tule River Indian Reservation to provide culturally competent alcohol use disorder (AUD) treatment in Porterville, California. While this program is primarily focused on treating indigenous members of the Native American or Alaska Native populations, I like that it’s possible for non Native clients to join depending on availability and the program’s rules.

The Tule River Indian Reservation is located at the base of the Sierra Nevada foothills which is near the city of Porterville. It serves as a natural green space with plenty of outdoor excursions that can complement a traditional outpatient treatment program.

You can visit the nearby Sequoia National Forest or even visit the River Island Country Club.
TRIAP accepts funding through tribal, state, and federal sources.

Outpatient Counseling in Porterville

TRIAP focuses on providing outpatient services to its community. While alcoholism is directly named in the program title, this facility can also care for people struggling with drug addiction. An emphasis is placed on providing care that incorporates central cultural tenets which can include healing traditions that have been passed down through the generations.

This organization prioritizes family education as well as support programs that focus on helping participants overcome their addiction while remaining in their primary environment with their families. Likewise, prevention education is a central focus at TRIAP.

Holistic Approach to Support

The person dealing with addiction isn’t the only person who receives support from TRIAP. Their families or loved ones can also expect to receive counseling since addiction can impact everyone. While outpatient care is the primary goal, I noticed residential treatment is also available for anyone struggling with more severe addiction.
