About Avenues Recovery Center at Townsend

Located within the New Orleans East Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana, Avenues Recovery Center at Townsend was a private residential facility that specialized in drug and alcohol dependence and co-occurring mental health conditions. It is now closed.

Joint Commission and Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) accredited, they prided themselves on providing a family feel to treatment. They accepted Medicaid and federal military insurance as well as sliding scale payments, and consultations were available 24/7.

MAT with Vivitrol and Subutex

Believing that addiction is a chronic progressive brain disease, this rehab center sought to treat the whole person at their 36 bed facility. Providing 24 hour nursing coverage and customized care plans in a clean and contemporary environment, they offered individual, group and family counseling as well as medically supervised detox. Their focus was on medical stabilization and their residential program. Medication assisted treatment (MAT) was also available using medications such as Vivitrol and Subutex to reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms for alcohol or opioid addiction.

Gourmet Catered Meals and Walking Trails

In addition to their 30 day residential program, they provided intensive outpatient and general outpatient services. They offered both a weekend family program and couples counseling.

While in treatment you could enjoy amenities like gourmet catered meals, fitness instruction and access to serene natural spaces. They also had evening and weekend activities, a basketball court and a volleyball court, and local transportation to 12 step meetings. I liked that they also offered yoga and various outdoor activities.
