About Timber Ridge School

Timber Ridge School is a behavioral health residential program for boys between the ages of 10 and 21 who are facing behavioral and substance abuse issues in Cross Junction, Virginia. While substance use disorders (SUDs) can be treated here, the primary emphasis is on behavioral health and socialization issues that might cause a participant to struggle in regular life. Timber Ridge also works with the local judicial system and accepts referrals through that pathway.

A Specialized Population

The primary goal at Timber Ridge is to help children or adolescents with serious emotional disturbances work through their feelings and learn healthier ways to express themselves and manage difficult situations. SUDs can be incorporated into a customized treatment plan as every attendee is evaluated to determine the best practices for their needs.

For SUD treatment, relapse prevention is an integral part of the recovery process. Likewise, this facility takes a trauma informed approach to treatment as this is often one of the underlying causes of behavioral health issues in youth. Timber Ridge School accepts Medicaid, state and federal funding from specialized programs, and self payment.

Education Opportunities

Because the target population receiving care is adolescents, I noticed that Timber Ridge also has a fully functioning academic day school where participants receive an education that meets Virginia state education requirements.

Likewise, there are extensive options that go beyond standard academics. For example, I like that patients can also enroll in the trades academy, which is a program that helps older residents build technical skills so they can achieve gainful employment and be self-sufficient.

Day School

Addiction treatment programs provide an opportunity to get your life back on track with access to school classes or college courses. Whether you want to finish your GED or go back to school to learn a new trade, facilities often enlist tutors and teachers who are certified or licensed by the state to oversee self-study or distance-learning education.

Gym

When paired with cognitive-behavioral therapy, exercise can be an effective tool for overcoming addiction. Drug rehabs with a gym offer clients healthy ways to increase energy levels, balance the body’s stress hormone levels, and aid in the brain’s healing process.

Basketball Court

When used as part of an evidence-based treatment plan, basketball can boost physical and mental health, lead to sharper thinking, and facilitate improved self-esteem. Drug rehabs with a basketball court also place a focus on teamwork and cooperation.
