About Thunderbird Wren House

Thunderbird Wren House in Duluth, Minnesota, is part of the Minnesota Indian Primary Residential Treatment Center. This is a Native American-led nonprofit organization. This unique substance abuse recovery center operates as a halfway or transitional house where you’ll be under supervision while focussing on overcoming addiction. Thunderbird Wren House serves Native American adults from all tribes, and you have to show tribal affiliation for admission.

Medium-Intensity Residential Recovery for Men & Women

As a medium-intensity adult program, Thunderbird Wren House offers 15 service hours to Anishinaabe men and women. If you want to be admitted to this center, you must complete a high-intensity treatment program first. Once admitted, clients receive a range of comprehensive treatments to address problematic substance abuse.

For example, the center offers 12 Step lectures, cultural services, medical services, and individual counseling. They also provide co-occurring groups for those battling mental health issues alongside addiction, and life skills assessment and living skills development. In addition, depending on your own needs, you might also qualify for educational and vocational counseling.

A Unique Tribal Approach to Care

The Thunderbird Wren House is one of the few halfway houses in the country that’s actually operated by Native American adults. I think that’s why it can offer impressive cultural integrations with tribal identity affirmation in programming and traditional experiences.

Many find that they recover better because of this. The center is also unique in how it bridges modern addiction recovery modalities with traditional healing practices. I’m glad many past patients find this helpful, and you might, too.
