About The Equine Healing Collaborative

The Equine Healing Collaborative or EHC is a therapeutic program designed as a supplemental solution for a range of behavioral health issues which can include substance use disorder (SUD) treatment that’s located in Salinas, California. While it doesn’t directly focus on SUD, it can be an alternative therapy that helps some participants reconnect with themselves, address repressed triggers in a low stress and nontraditional environment, and provide a wide range of therapeutic benefits.

An Equine Therapeutic Program

While EHC is not an explicit SUD treatment program, I do appreciate that they focus on comprehensive counseling but in an outdoor setting. EHC focuses on individual and group therapy sessions with equine assisted psychotherapy (EAP) as the primary modality. Because of this, I thought it was nice that you could participate in all of your therapy sessions with horses present if you preferred.

Mindfulness and Wellness

Counseling services do include more traditional methodologies such as DBT, CBT and motivational interviewing. But I like that you also have the option to take advantage of mindfulness practices by caring for the horses. This includes equine massage which can help you recenter and focus your energies on your horse.

EHC serves a diverse array of patients of all ages. Beyond people seeking support for SUD treatment, this program is also designed to help people from underserved communities, domestic violence and human trafficking survivors, law enforcement and first responders, veterans, educators and even refugees.

EHC accepts several insurance plans including Medi-Cal but also offers services on a sliding scale basis based on demonstrated need.
