About The Academy Schools

The Academy Schools operates a network of programs in Pittsburgh, combining education with behavioral health services for at risk adolescents ages 13 to 18 years. The organization offers residential treatment, outpatient drug and alcohol counseling, outpatient mental health services and community based programming for court involved and agency referred youth.

Treatment integrates evidence based modalities including trauma focused CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing and 12 step approaches within an accredited educational framework.

Residential and Outpatient Treatment for Adolescents

The Academy Schools provides gender specific residential programs: Summit Academy serves young men ages 13 to 17 years on a 125 acre campus in Butler County, while New Outlook Academy serves young women ages 13 to 18 years in Allegheny County.

Both programs are designed as alternatives to institutionalization for court referred and agency placed teens. Outpatient services include comprehensive drug and alcohol treatment with individual and group counseling, plus a separate mental health program staffed by master's level therapists. Outpatient mental health programming includes psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis driven treatment planning and medication management overseen by a psychiatrist when clinically appropriate.

Education Integrated Recovery Model

We like that the Academy Schools pairs clinical treatment with accredited schooling for grades 7 through 12, offering diploma and GED pathways. The Integrated Program combines charter school day programming with after school counseling, transportation and meals as a holistic alternative to residential placement, operating evenings and Saturdays to support continuity of care.

Weekday Outpatient Services with Saturday Appointments

Administrative offices are located at 900 Agnew Road in Pittsburgh, with outpatient services available Monday through Friday and Saturdays by appointment. It's good to know that the organization has maintained full outpatient accreditations since 2008 and holds CARF accreditation.

Payment and placement are coordinated directly through referring agencies including courts, child welfare systems and school districts. Contact the referral team to learn more about program eligibility and next steps.
