About Cooke Mental Health Center

Cooke County Mental Health Services offers outpatient care for those diagnosed with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders in Gainesville, Texas. Accepting Medicare, Medicaid, and military insurance, they also receive funding from Community Service Block Grants, Community Mental Health Block Grants, and other state funds. They operate a 24 hour crisis intervention line, as well as telehealth services for those unable to attend sessions in person. Sign language services are available for the deaf and hard of hearing.

Individualized Treatment Plans

With an emphasis on individualized treatment plans, they provide individual, group, family, and couples counseling. Treatment focuses on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) and peer support.

They also offer medication and case management services. Primary care integration is a part of their program, as are employment and housing services.

Specialized Services for Specific Patient Groups

I think it’s important to note that they offer specialized women’s services and an adolescent treatment program for individuals aged 13 to 17. They also treat seniors, adults with serious mental illness (SMI), and children and adolescents with serious emotional disturbance (SED). There’s a dedicated veteran’s program, and a welcoming space for those experiencing post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Court referred clients and those experiencing
first episode psychosis also have a place at their facility.

Compassionate and Supportive Staff

I like that previous clients praise the compassionate staff, saying that they offered support during challenging times. However there is some concern about the number of caseworkers, with a need for more to better assist patients on their recovery journeys.

Outdoor Activities in Gainesville

Gainesville offers a variety of outdoor activities to supplement your outpatient therapy. Leonard Park is home to the Frank Buck Zoo, the Frankie Schmitz Express train for children, picnicking spots and a playground for recreation.

Heritage Park contains a dog park with separate areas for large and small dogs. At Lavender Ridge Farms you can harvest your own lavender during the blooming season or take a relaxing stroll through the beautiful fields. The Homegrown Hero Walking Trail features oak trees honoring local heroes, providing a natural space for serene contemplation.
