About The Texas House
The Texas House is a non-profit organization that helps men overcome their drug and alcohol addiction. They've been around since 1965, serving residents of Houston and beyond. They’re largely based on the 12 Steps philosophy and offer a peer driven residential treatment program that lasts one year. This program is for men who don't have insurance or funding. There’s no out-of-pocket cost for clients.
To qualify for this program the client must be screened by a counselor to ensure that their physical condition meets the requirements of this program. You’ll need to detox before entry. Serious mental or medical illness have to be addressed before treatment begins. They accept those with co-occurring mental health disorders so long as a physician signs off on their ability to participate in this program.
I like that they offer a year-long program so that clients can really establish their sobriety before they reenter society. During the first 30 days you'll be introduced to Alcoholics Anonymous meetings that are held daily on site. a big brother will be assigned to you to help you learn the ropes. You'll have to pass an exam to enter the next phase. During the second phase, you’ll start to earn points that will allow you to have more privileges such as phone calls, store runs and visits from family and friends. In the last phase, you’ll have employment, a 12 Step sponsor and be a role model for new residents. They offer one year aftercare programs.
