About Teen Challenge of the Dakotas

Teen Challenge of the Dakotas provides faith-based residential addiction recovery in Brookings, South Dakota for adult men 18 and older.

The program supports individuals facing addiction, depression and other life-controlling issues through personal studies, group studies, work study and individualized mentoring.

Rooted in a Christ-centered approach, Teen Challenge emphasizes whole-person restoration across mental, emotional, social, physical and spiritual dimensions.

Christian Residential Recovery for Men

I found that Teen Challenge of the Dakotas offers a structured 14-month residential program designed to support lasting change rather than short-term stabilization.

The program unfolds across five phases including four induction and training phases over the first eight months followed by a six-month re-entry phase.

Residents engage in biblical discipleship, mentorship and group learning that address the root causes of addiction while building accountability and personal responsibility.

Life Skills and Workforce Readiness

The re-entry phase, based at a renovated downtown Brookings facility, I noted helps men transition into stable, independent living.

Support includes GED completion, employment assistance, budgeting, debt reduction and community service through the Home Again Thrift Store, equipping residents with the practical tools needed for long-term success.

Amenities

Day School

Addiction treatment programs provide an opportunity to get your life back on track with access to school classes or college courses. Whether you want to finish your GED or go back to school to learn a new trade, facilities often enlist tutors and teachers who are certified or licensed by the state to oversee self-study or distance-learning education.

Farm Setting

There are many pathways to recovery and some journeys take a more labor-intensive approach, by attending a farm-based drug rehab. Farm life has many parallels with recovery: it requires constant tending, nurturing, and creating the conditions necessary to thrive. The benefits of a farm program include learning new skills, building a recovery community, peer support, and contributing to a greater ecosystem.

Private Rehab

Private drug rehab provides a comfortable, secure environment that allows you to focus on doing the work to get your life back on track. Benefits include a higher staff-to-client ratio, increased one-on-one time with therapists and healthcare providers, private rooms for clients, and customized forms of therapy.

Rec Room & Activities

Recreational therapy uniquely combines therapeutic interventions with an activity, like horse-riding, hiking, wilderness therapy, basketball, tennis, or a full workout. Benefits of recreational therapy include providing a healthy way to work through the emotions of recovery, learning to build and maintain relationships, improving communication skills, and building self-esteem.
