STEP Med, in Dallas, Texas is an outpatient addiction treatment facility that offers medication assisted treatment (MAT) for opioid use disorder. This is a methadone maintenance program that also provides counseling and life skills classes. They also have a tobacco cessation program and can help with co-occurring mental health and substance use diagnoses.
STEP Med accepts Medicare, Medicaid and self payment. They may also accept other insurance, but you’ll need to check with them directly.
Treatment and Education For Opioid Use Disorder
The STEP clinic focuses solely on treating opioid use disorder clients, but they offer services beyond traditional evidence based MAT and counseling. For example, they have HIV and AIDS support and counseling and provide early intervention for HIV.
Their program is available in English and Spanish and also includes education on hepatitis, overdose counseling and naloxone kits, and other substance use education. I noticed that smoking or vaping is not allowed in or around the facility.
STEP also offers life skills classes including anger management and social skills. They also have a wide range of testing and screening for STDs, HIV, Hep C and more.
Recovery and Support Services
STEP makes an effort to ensure you’re supported outside of specific treatment hours. When you go here, you’ll have access to a recovery coach and peer support. I especially like that they have employment training available and can help connect you to social services like housing support.
Having a stable foundation in terms of work, income and a safe place to live can make all the difference in maintaining your recovery long term. Also, having a peer who understands what you’re going through and can support you outside of the time you’re in counseling gives you a first step toward building a strong sober support network.
