About St Leonard’s Ministries
St Leonard’s Ministries provides housing services for formerly incarcerated adults. They are located in Chicago, Illinois, and the people they treat are from the South Side of the city. Many of the people who are housed in their facilities have committed drug-related crimes or suffer from substance use disorder.
A Well Established Company
They are a not-for-profit organization that has been around for 70 years. It was established to help ease the particular challenges faced by people who have recently been In the justice system. They have several houses in the Chicagoland area.
What stands out about this program is that they do not charge residents for their services. They receive money from donations and have many volunteers to help the staff.
Residential Facilities
This company manages two gender-specific halfway houses. Leonard's House is the residence that is located on the main campus. It is a men’s facility that has a total of 40 beds spread out over two buildings. I was impressed that they have single-man rooms. They also have rooms that house up to six people. They also operate Grace House for Women at another location.
Both facilities provide three meals a day. You will participate in group and individual therapy sessions while you live in either house. They have sessions that are especially focused on substance use disorder. Residents will also participate in group recreational activities.
Training in All Areas of Life
All residents have classes in life skills, such as home maintenance and budgeting. I think it’s great that they can also help you with obtaining student loans, vocational training and employment. They will help you get permanent housing and connect you with community resources such as 12 Step meetings and other peer support groups.
The company owns several apartment buildings. They are occupied by people who have graduated from one of the residential programs.
