About St John’s Recovery Place
St. John’s Recovery Place in Melbourne, Florida, offered outpatient addiction treatment services. It was conveniently located near the Melbourne Orlando International Airport. The levels of care that were available at this location were an intensive outpatient program (IOP) and a partial hospitalization program (PHP).
Evidence Based Therapeutic Approaches
One of the primary evidence based therapeutic approaches that this facility used was cognitive behavioral therapy. Counselors helped clients understand the underlying thoughts and beliefs that were contributing to their addiction. Patients learned to challenge those thoughts with more positive and constructive thinking.
Counselors might have discussed topics such as specific methods of coping as well as relaxation techniques. The treatment was designed to help clients learn to recognize harmful thoughts and manage their stress without substances. Additional therapeutic methods that might have been used include dialectical behavior therapy and motivational interviewing.
Recovery Near the Beach in Melbourne
One thing I liked about this facility is that it was not far from numerous beaches in Florida, where clients could go after their treatment sessions. Some of the beaches included Melbourne Beach, Indian Harbour Beach and Satellite Beach. Clients had the opportunity to enjoy sober activities such as swimming in the ocean or going for a run in the sand.
Continued Support Through Alumni Services
Another thing I found helpful about this facility was its alumni services. The alumni program at St. John’s Recovery Place gave clients the opportunity to stay in contact and continue to share their journey and struggle with recovery. Through alumni gatherings, alumni picnics and a private Facebook community, individuals could continue to receive the encouragement and support needed to maintain their sobriety.
