About St. Augustine Youth Services

St. Augustine Youth Services (SAYS) is for boys in St. Augustine, Florida, aged six to 17 who have faced abuse, neglect or trauma. They’re a nonprofit that provides trauma informed, residential and community based care. to foster healing and independence, though substance abuse treatment isn’t explicitly offered. They accept Medicaid and are funded by grants and donations.

Living Away From Home

Their residential programs house up to 28 boys across three therapeutic group homes and one pre-independent living home. A family like and nurturing environment will be provided.

Your child receives individual, group and family therapy and services such as psychological and psychiatric will be available. They emphasize social skills, employment readiness and life skills to prepare youth for adulthood. I like that recreational activities like outings and sports will be offered.

Considering Life Events

They help kids recover from homes struggling with substance use. A short study by the name of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES) was done that considered stressful or traumatic events that children experienced before the age of 18.

The center also took into consideration how those events impacted the individual's mental health and physical health throughout their lifetime. The traumas considered in the ACES study included household dysfunction such as substance abuse, mental illness or domestic violence. It also included physical, emotional or sexual abuse.

Additional Services

They offer a transitional life coaches program that aids youth aged 16 to 21 with mental health diagnoses. This program offers case management for education, employment and housing goals.

Targeted case management is also available and will be able to connect you to behavioral health resources.
