About Southwestern Mental Health Unity House
Unity House in suburban Worthington, Minnesota, is a residential facility with nine beds for men and women. Guests of this house have severe and persistent mental illnesses and need residential care because their ability to function has deteriorated. Many patients come here from hospitalization before transitioning back to the community. Unity House can also be an option to prevent hospitalization.
Unity House is an intensive Residential Treatment Facility. The cost to stay here includes room and board as well as programming. The state of Minnesota has financial assistance programs to help cover the cost for people who have financial barriers. I’m struck by the fact that there is a grant called group residential housing and most residents are eligible for this program. If you get a bursary, you can keep some of the money for your personal needs.
Folks who have no income will likely be able to qualify for general assistance administered by the county. At the time of writing, the current program fee was $456.59 per day. Medical assistance and many health insurance plans cover this fee in full. If you’re a resident of one of the 18 counties in Southwestern Minnesota, there's a state mental health initiative that can fund your stay at Unity House.
The goals of unity house is to help residents enhance their mental and psychiatric stability, become personally and emotionally stable and increase their self sufficiency and independence.
I like that their staff includes a multidisciplinary team that can work together on your case to get you the kind of recovery support you need. I find their rehabilitation services to be comprehensive and well thought out. These include cooking and nutrition education, finances, healthy living, and general life skills. You can also treat symptoms specific issues and start relapse prevention planning. They will also educate you on any medication that you are on or will begin taking.
If you have some downtime, the Nobles County Library is across the street. Okabena Lake and Pirtle's Park are also not too far away.
