Sisters of Color SOCUE at the Althea Center in Denver, Colorado offers a different kind of outpatient support for women who are struggling with substance use and the emotional weight that often comes with it. This is a community-centered space that focuses on healing and personal growth while allowing participants to continue living at home.

The goal is to create a safe place where women can explore recovery in ways that feel culturally responsive and emotionally supportive.

How Substance Support Shows Up Here

The Althea Center provides outpatient-level support that can help address substance misuse, especially when it’s rooted in trauma, stress, identity or mental health challenges.

While this center doesn’t operate as a full-scale addiction treatment center, it does offer meaningful indirect support including spiritual psychology classes that many people in early recovery or harm reduction may find helpful. This space hosts Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meetings twice a week and helps to give women the peer-based recovery support they need in a familiar environment.

Who Althea Center Serves

This center also provides classes rooted in confidence-building, mindfulness and self-reflection, which also play an important role in reducing relapse risk and helping people to build healthier coping skills. While the programming is designed primarily for women, they do serve teens and adolescents.
