About Seneca Center
Seneca Center Building Blocks is a community based outpatient behavioral health program in Oakland, California, operating under Seneca Family of Agencies. The program serves children and adolescents through outpatient services and intensive outpatient programming designed to address co-occurring mental health and substance use concerns.
As a nonprofit provider, Building Blocks offers youth centered care that integrates multiple therapy approaches with practical supports, such as case management and educational coordination.
Co-Occurring Mental Health and Behavioral Health Treatment for Youth
Building Blocks provides dual diagnosis care for young people who are managing both mental health conditions and substance use challenges. This includes children and adolescents with serious emotional disturbance and those experiencing post traumatic stress disorder. Services begin with a comprehensive mental health assessment that guides the development of an individualized treatment plan reflecting the full scope of each young person’s needs.
Treatment may include individual psychotherapy, group therapy and behavior modification strategies that help youth strengthen coping skills, address trauma and build healthier behavioral patterns. Family therapy and couples therapy are incorporated when appropriate to improve communication, repair relationships and foster a supportive home environment.
Intensive Outpatient Programming for Adolescents
The intensive outpatient programming track typically meets 3 to 4 days per week in a community based outpatient setting. Services combine individual and group sessions that align with adolescent development. This structure allows youth to continue attending school and participating in family life while receiving consistent therapeutic support and opportunities to practice new skills between sessions.
Building Blocks serves families in Oakland through community based outpatient care. Spanish language services are available to support accessibility. The program accepts Medicaid and major private insurance plans, including Cigna, Humana, and Blue Cross Blue Shield, as well as state financed plans. Sliding scale fees and payment assistance options may be available for eligible families.
