About Terrebonne Behavioral Health Center

The South Central Louisiana Human Services Authority (SCLHSA) offers behavioral health services for residents throughout the state. They have multiple locations, including the Terrebonne Behavioral Health Center in the city of Houma. This is a CARF-accredited treatment center that supports children, teens, and adults who are struggling with behavioral health and substance abuse disorders. They accept private insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid insurance. They also offer sliding scale fees.

Located about 50 miles southwest of New Orleans, Houma is a robust city that’s vibrant with rich Cajun culture. Many refer to it as the central heartbeat of deep Bayou country, and you’ll notice that distinct influence throughout the local restaurants, venues, and events. Natural beauty is abundant here, offset by the area’s gorgeous and mysterious wetlands and cypress swamps.

Everyone starts by completing an initial assessment, which gives your team a chance to learn more about you and what you’re trying to overcome. Then, you’ll begin your treatment plan. Some of the services they offer here include crisis intervention, individual, group and family therapy, and medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD). They also offer an intensive outpatient program (IOP) if you need more frequent and dedicated care.

I noticed that they also provide DWI programs for individuals who have had a third or fourth felony offense. This program consists of classes to raise awareness of the impacts of drinking or using substances when driving. As you learn more about the effects of your actions, you’ll become motivated to discontinue the impulsive and dangerous choices that impact you as well as others.

When you’re not in treatment, take the time to check out all that Houma has to offer. From walking paths and Creole cuisine to sculpture gardens and museums, there’s no shortage of places to explore.
