About San Antonio Council on Alcohol and Drug Awareness
San Antonio Council on Alcohol and Drug Awareness is a nonprofit. They serve Bexar County and 28 other counties in South Central Texas. They offer prevention, intervention and substance abuse support. They offer free medication assisted treatment for adults who’re uninsured and underinsured. They also provide clients with free recovery coaching and support services in person and online.
Their recovery coaches help individuals get connected with community organizations that they need to succeed at life and reach their goals. Coaches also can provide mentoring and share their personal experiences to help individuals figure out the right path for themselves. Recovery coaches work with EMS and other first responders, hospitals, and courts to help those who overdose.
Recovery coaches can help with such a large range of things such as getting you enrolled in a family violence prevention course, getting GED testing, transportation or DWI classes, help finding places to do your community service hours, job searching and getting connected to medical and dental care. These are just a few of the things that a recovery coach can help you with. It's important to understand that recovery coaches are not healthcare professionals. They don’t offer medical advice, treatment, or diagnoses. What they can do is support you in your recovery journey as you move forward.
