About South Central Human Relations Center Safe Harbour

The South Central Human Relations Center runs Safe Harbour in Owatonna, Minnesota. This one-story building on the northeast side of Owatonna can serve up to 12 clients at a time who need residential mental health treatment. They accept clients with a dual disorder.

Residents get catered meals, computer and internet access, private bedrooms with bathrooms and 16 hours a week of nursing services. Fees are payable in advance with the exception of authorization by an approved agency. Individuals can stay for up to 90 days but the average length is 45 days.

Their crisis stabilization beds are reserved for adults over 18 who are dealing with a mental health emergency. There are two beds in the facility dedicated to crisis stabilization and they are available 24/7. The maximum length of stay is 10 days.

When you’re admitted you'll have an assessment so that staff can develop interventions to help you stabilize. The goal is to minimize the need for hospitalization or more restrictive inpatient care. Clients also get medication monitoring, symptom management and education. You'll learn about relapse prevention and develop a crisis relapse prevention plan.

Counseling and problem-solving support are also a big part of what Safe Harbor offers clients. Family education will help your loved ones know how to best support you in your recovery.

Safe Harbours treats addiction issues at the same time as mental health challenges because they often go hand-in-hand. They offer both individual and group counseling so you can get all the support you need.

In individual sessions, you’ll get personalized attention to work through your specific challenges and goals. In group sessions, you’ll be supported by your peers who understand what you’re going through and can provide insight, compassion and accountability. They also coordinate follow-up services for all your mental health needs.

Note that Safe Harbour doesn’t accept clients who are physically unstable or under the influence. Clients who are physically aggressive, threatening or too unpredictable are not the right fit for this level of care.

Addiction Treatment Programs

Adult Program Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Senior Drug & Alcohol Rehab Teen & Adolescent Program

Adult Program

When an individual struggles with drug and alcohol use, an adult program in Minnesota can provide treatment and mental health support. Designed for men and women over the age of 18, these programs help individuals obtain and maintain sobriety.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive behavioral therapy in Minnesota is based on rapid, action-focused treatment. This works well for 60 to 90-day rehab programs by providing participants with immediate and effective coping techniques.

Senior Drug & Alcohol Rehab

Designed to cater to the older adult's individual needs, elderly rehab in Minnesota increases recovery success. Seniors may participate in individual therapy, group therapy, or holistic therapies, focusing on the specific challenges they are facing related to their stage of life and type of addiction.

Teen & Adolescent Program

Recovery is not the same for young adults as it is for older individuals. A young adult program in Minnesota treats the patient as a whole, addressing unique life-stage challenges, dual diagnosis issues, and substance abuse.
