About Riverwood Center

Across the road from the Niles Hospital in Niles, Michigan, you’ll find one of the Riverwood Center’s outpatient locations. As an organization, they’ve been providing quality mental health services for over 50 years, and can directly provide outpatient resources to help you overcome a drug or alcohol addiction. They can also offer assessments and referrals to facilities with higher levels of care if services such as residential treatment or medication assisted treatment better fit your needs.

Providing Rapid Access to Treatment Services

One of the first aspects of Riverwood’s approach to care that stands out is that they allow you to access care on a walk in basis. To make treatment even more accessible, they accept patients who are on Medicaid and Medicare, and can offer financial assistance and discounts to underinsured or uninsured individuals.

Their primary focus is to help you achieve and maintain sobriety and abstinence. They do this by teaching you how to set boundaries, develop healthier coping mechanisms, build or improve a personal support system within important relationships and even help with navigating any legal challenges.

They offer individual therapy sessions where you’ll get personalized attention and care planning. In these sessions, your therapist works with you to set achievable personal goals and tailors their care to help you deal with the particular challenges you face.

A Healthy Peer Support System

Another key aspect of the Riverwood approach I like is that their intensive outpatient programming takes place almost entirely in a group setting. In this program, those with a higher risk of relapsing engage in three weekly meetings where they work together to heal, grow and hold each other accountable.

If you’re in this program, remember that there are many great locations you and your peers could enjoy together. Some pertinent nearby attractions I noticed include the Westside Niles Theatre, Orchard Park and Fort St Joseph.

Levels of Care

Outpatient Rehab

Outpatient rehab in Michigan is tailored to each person’s recovery journey. This treatment usually involves several hours of therapy sessions each week, along with attendance at support group meetings. However, the timeline varies from a few weeks, to months, to years, based on your needs.

Dual Diagnosis & Mental Health

A dual diagnosis treatment center in Michigan allows you to get treatment for substance abuse and mental health disorders at the same time. This is critical, because untreated mental health disorders often lead to relapse and poor recovery outcomes.
