River Place Behavioral Health Hospital

LaPlace, Louisiana is known for its vibrant Cajun culture and the annual Andouille Festival held every October. It’s also home to River Place Behavioral Health, which provides treatment for mental health disorders and co occurring substance use issues. They have inpatient treatment for adults and adolescents ages 13 to 17, as well as outpatient treatment for adults.

River Place accepts managed Medicaid, Medicare, and all major insurance plans. They may also have financial assistance or payment arrangements.

Adult Treatment for Mental Health and Co Occurring Disorders

The adult treatment programs at River Place include an inpatient program and intensive outpatient treatment.

The treatment services in both programs are focused on evidence based group therapy which address topics like coping skills, goal setting, and life management skills. You also receive individual therapy as needed. During inpatient care, they offer experiential options as well like art and music therapy and various movement based classes.

Addiction counseling can be part of an adult's treatment plan as long as they don’t need detox services. The same therapy approaches used for mental health are effective for substance use.

Adolescent Treatment in LaPlace

What I found interesting about the adolescent program is that it offers a lot more focus on co occurring substance use disorders than the adult program. For example, they have services not available to adults, including detox and medication assisted treatment (MAT) for substance use.

Treatment approaches include individual, family and group therapy that uses common evidence based approaches as well as 12 step programming. Like the adult program, the focus is on group therapy and activities.

I also think it’s helpful that River Place incorporates recreational therapy and leisure activities into the treatment process, making treatment a little more fun and also teaching teenagers healthy ways to relax and have fun.
