About Lydia Home Association
Lydia Home Association used to be known as the Rice Child and Family Center. Under the Lydia banner, the Christian nonprofit organization continues to provide support for children, including foster children, and their families with counseling and other support services. Lydia has been around since 1916 and has locations throughout Illinois, including Evanston.
They don’t provide programs for substance misuse, but the staff can make referrals for drug or alcohol addiction treatment as part of their continuum of care.
Keeping Families Together
Health services are just the tip of what this organization offers to families in need. Their Intact Family Services Program is designed to prevent family separations in instances where DCSF is involved. They do this through an array of counseling and case management services to educate parents and make sure they meet all requirements to keep custody.
The goal of the program is to ultimately make better parents and help them change course. Think of it as support in instances where neglect wasn’t intentional.
Supporting Family Stability
Of course, it’s not all behavioral, and that’s what I like about the IFSP program. While the central focus is education addressing problematic behaviors, they can also assist you with job training, food access, and housing support—the basics needed for stability. I think it’s a great way to not only support family stability, but also stability for anyone in mental health or addiction recovery.
