About Retreat Behavioral Health Service Center | Palm Beach

Retreat Behavioral Health runs several substance abuse and mental health treatment facilities in Florida. They operate an inpatient facility in Palm Springs. It’s called Retreat and offers an upscale rehab environment with the option for medication assistance.

A typical day has the structure of a school day with lots of activities to promote recovery. After breakfast, clients join in small group therapy sessions where much of their progress will be unlocked. Once lunch is over, residents get various kinds of therapy like art and music therapy, loss and trauma, and mindfulness and meditation. Clinical specialists will help you learn how to apply these tools to process your emotions and move forward.

You’ll also have an hour or so with therapists to learn how to manage your emotions and deal with life’s stressors. That’s a lot for a day, so after dinner you’ll get to unwind and develop some interests in cooking, music, art and connect with other residents. Each evening will also have recovery activities like guest speakers and AA/NA meetings. Enjoy a bedtime snack before lights out at 11pm.

Weekend schedules have a bit less structure to them and focus on acceptance and commitment therapy. This branch of therapy helps you stop avoiding, denying and struggling with emotions. You’ll begin to accept your lot in life and make the changes to your behavior to move forward. Residents get short phone calls with family every week plus a weekend visit.

After inpatient care there are a few options. Extended care is a half-step down and gives you 24/7 supervision and many treatment sessions a week but less than inpatient. You get the benefit of staying in a safe and monitored environment.

You may also consider partial hospitalization which runs 5 days a week for 6 hours a day. Intensive outpatient is 2-3 weekly sessions for 3 hours each. General outpatient care can be as little as one session a week.
