About Refugio House Sober Living

Refugio House was a fully-furnished transitional sober living home in Tyler, Texas, that has now permanently closed. It was within walking distance from several restaurants, banks, and the Tyler Transit bus stop. The Refugio House had a five bedroom and three baths.

Supportive Living in Tyler

Refugio House was a peer-driven sober living and transitional housing community. I like their approach to recovery which focuses on one-on-one community and accountability.

They offered both personal and practical support to give residents the tools they need for lasting recovery. Residents were encouraged to join a 12 Step program and find sponsors. They were also required to follow the house rules and expectations.

House rules included avoiding all substances of any kind, abiding by curfew, making on time payments, proper internet access, and doing their share of household chores. Residents were expected to look for, find and maintain a job during their time in the house. Folks who were unable to work were required to volunteer in the community.

Addiction Recovery in Texas That’s Just Like Home

The Refugio House had a live-in house manager that was there to support residents and Model what recovery looks like. I like that this house manager was a peer that was also in recovery.

This sober living facility had all the amenities of Home including an Xbox, a computer and printer, a spacious backyard with a privacy fence, and High Speed Wi-Fi internet. The home had a large screen porch, front load washers and dryers onsite, all kitchen appliances, and fully furnished bedrooms and living room. Even though they’re closed, there are other centers nearby that can help you.
