About Recovery Road

Based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Recovery Road is a cluster of sober living houses offering support for substance abuse disorder and addiction treatment. Gender separated support is available to adults aged 18 and older.

Recovery Road is currently made up of five men’s houses and four women’s houses as well as the recent addition of a new men’s home in Muskegon. Each residence is on a bus line with convenient public transport links. Many home meetings are scheduled within walking distance for convenience. Residents can bring their own transport as long as they are insured and legally allowed to drive.

Recovery Roads knows that the journey to sobriety looks different for everyone and supports medication assisted treatment for those who need it. However, residents here are not allowed to take their medications in front of other residents. Individuals in the care of their sober living homes must attend AA, NA or other approved groups. A minimum of five meetings per week are required in residents’ first month, then a minimum of four per week going forward. For residents who have been staying at Recovery Road for two or more years some flexibility is allowed at the discretion of the house directors. All residents must be working closely with sponsors or mentors and be able to provide accountability slips for each meeting they attend.

Regular breathalyzer tests are required in the mornings and evenings and every time residents return to their house. Results are logged by a fellow resident witness. Residents must also have or look for full time work. If residents are on disability or voluntarily unemployed they are encouraged to take on volunteer work. They must also attend weekly house meetings if their work schedules permit.
