About Progress Foundation

Cortland House Residential Program is a transitional mental health and substance abuse treatment facility operated by Progress Foundation in San Francisco's Bernal Heights neighborhood.

Cortland House uses a social rehabilitation approach that emphasizes home-like environments, honorable therapeutic relationships, and active client participation in treatment planning.

Cortland House serves adults, young adults, and seniors in person at its residential facility in San Francisco, with LGBTQ-friendly programming and services for veterans and court-ordered clients, with stays up to 90 days.

Dual Diagnosis Treatment for Co-Occurring Disorders

Cortland House specializes in serving adults with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders through 24-hour social rehabilitation treatment.

Treatment includes medication management, crisis intervention services, and psychosocial rehabilitation to help each person hit their recovery goals.

I've found that former residents credit the program's structure, counseling, and peer community with life-saving transformations, with one sharing they now live independently without issues.

Community Reintegration and Comprehensive Support

Cortland House connects residents with housing assistance, vocational rehabilitation, employment support, and case management services. I've learned that this wrap-around approach helps clients build practical life skills through everyday normalized experiences like shared meals and household responsibilities.

Part of Progress Foundation's network serving the community since 1969, the program has operated at its current Cortland Avenue location since 1982.

Income-Based Treatment

The facility accepts Medicaid, Medicare, VA funds, and county or local government funding.

They provide treatments based on income with sliding scale fees.
