About PORT Health | Aberdeen Adolescent
Easterseals is one of the nation’s largest nonprofit organizations dedicated to helping people with disabilities, mental health conditions, addictions, and other similar issues. In Aberdeen, North Carolina, about 37 miles east of Fayetteville, you’ll find one of their residential facilities earmarked for teens facing substance use disorder (SUD).
A Holistic Healing Approach
Their residential program requires a referral from one of their associated clinics because the program itself is supposed to provide for teens whose needs are too intensive for other interventions. Once in, however, you’ll find a care model based on developing life skills and treating addiction.
The residents here are given therapy and even psychiatric help if needed and have access to staff support 24 hours a day. They can even get help with medication management if necessary. I also find it noteworthy that their care program involves physical activity and community engagement activities to teach the teens healthy living and the importance of social connections.
Orienting Residents Toward a Fulfilling Future
Another stellar part of their program I noticed is the provision of academic classes during the week to allow teens to stay on top of their education. The staff also encourages the teens to stay in contact with their families through phone calls and visits. These activities help residents lay the foundations for the lives they’ll ultimately return to once graduating from the program.
