About Piedmont Rescue Mission
Piedmont Rescue Mission is a men’s residential recovery program designed to help people access temporary stable housing while getting back on their feet. They’re located in Burlington, North Carolina. Along with helping folks recovering from substance use disorders, this program also provides support for homeless and disadvantaged men and uses a Bible based guidance program in the process. There’s a special track for pregnant women and new mothers. Care is provided free.
The beautiful surroundings in Burlington which include the historic Dentzel Carousel and the Haw River Trail provide a natural retreat for the senses. The mission also operates the Good Samaritan Thrift Store which serves as a work experience opportunity for participants and also supports the program.
A Faith Based Approach
Since Piedmont Rescue Mission is a faith based organization, I did recognize that people working to overcome drugs may find the program’s abstinence based approach to recovery more challenging. This was one of the few criticisms I discovered of the program.
As such, the residential recovery program might be better suited for individuals who have already successfully achieved sobriety. More importantly, it may be best to have already completed an inpatient or an intensive outpatient program where a person has been sober for a significant period before transitioning to this residence.
