About Phoenix House

Phoenix House Calumet is an addiction treatment center in Calumet, Michigan that offers a men’s residential program and outpatient substance use counseling. They also support people with co occurring medical and behavioral health issues living in a setting not conducive to recovery.

A Flexible Treatment Environment in Calumet

Their facility has 15 beds. Each bedroom has a sink and two twin beds. The bedrooms are upstairs while the main areas of the house are downstairs.

There’s a lower level with laundry, storage, a sauna and exercise equipment. The back of the facility has space for outdoor recreational activities. This area has horseshoe pits and space to play basketball, frisbee, football and other activities.

We notice that the facility offers very flexible house rules. They allow all tobacco products and have a designated place outside where you can smoke. They allow entertainment and music devices that are not internet connected and you can listen to music on weekends.

You’ll also have access to a personal phone line which you can start using after the first week of treatment. They have no restrictions on what you can receive via mail beyond the obvious (no drugs or weapons or illicit content.) Packages and mail are inspected before you receive them.

Treatment Involving Johari’s Window Concept

A particular unique model used here is Johari’s Window concept. This proven method helps you better understand your relationship with yourself and others. It improves your self awareness, helps with personal development and teaches you to communicate better in a group setting.

The program also incorporates the 12 step program, which is helpful in maintaining sober living. You’ll be introduced to self help meetings by attending Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous meetings. This is to enable you to build a foundation of support that can benefit your healing journey.

Phoenix House Calumet also offers outpatient treatment for folks seeking flexible and less structured care to address mild to moderate substance use. The outpatient offices are located in the front of the building. This office provides substance use assessments and substance use counseling. There are options for counseling via telehealth.
