About Peace River Center

Peace River Center Outpatient Therapy and Psychiatry in Lakeland, Florida, is an accredited nonprofit organization that specializes in mental health and human support services, including addiction treatment. Care is available to individuals and families of all ages. A lot of different insurance providers are accepted, including Medicare and Medicaid. Affordable self-pay rates are also available based on proof of income.

This center’s addiction treatment program is certified and licensed by the State of Florida. Here, clients can access a variety of outpatient services, including support for their families where appropriate. Treatment is guided by an abstinence-based model, with a focus on the development of healthier lifestyle choices and behaviors. They also address comorbid personal issues that may be present for clients, like suicidal thoughts, legal troubles, dysfunctional or toxic relationships, or poor performance at work or school.

After an initial substance abuse evaluation, individuals will work with a counselor to develop a personalized treatment plan based on the needs that have come up in assessment. This plan will include an action plan, with goals set out for the client to achieve as they work through their recovery. Evaluation will also determine whether a client will be better suited to an intensive outpatient program (IOP) or standard outpatient program. Housing support is also available for those clients who might benefit from a more structured environment and further, more intensive services.

Clients will receive individual and family addiction counseling, alongside group therapy sessions. Group therapy offers a sounding board for client thoughts and experiences, insights, and accountability from fellow participants, as well as peer support. Addiction education sessions are also provided. In general, this center champions a cognitive behavioral model of addiction recovery. They place a strong emphasis on relapse prevention, education and social support.

Once clients reach the end of their program, they will be gently prepared for their next transition, whether to a less intensive level of care or for life beyond recovery. They’ll be supported with aftercare services to ensure a sustainable and long term recovery.
