About Our Home
Our Home is a substance abuse and mental health treatment facility for at-risk youths. They’re based in Huron, South Dakota. This particular location focuses on boys, ages 10-17. The rural site includes the drug and alcohol center and academic and wellness center. Residents have recreational activities and classrooms, so they don’t miss out on schoolwork while getting treatment.
They have educational programs through partnerships with Huron school districts. Certified teachers lead classes, so students have the curriculum they need. They also offer special education and GED training. Services are available in English, Spanish, and Karen.
Their Positive Peer Culture program teaches young men to accept accountability for their actions and have social interactions with others in recovery. This can range from making your beds to being mindful of your peers. This program lasts approximately 45 days, but it depends on symptoms and needs. They do address co-occurring substance use disorders, but they do not offer medical detox.
They include cultural, spiritual, and educational opportunities that address all aspects of addiction and recovery. Their cultural services encourage expression and communication. They use this as a tool for holistic health. Staff is trained on culturally relevant information for more awareness and appreciation of different groups.
The onsite recreational facilities include activities to keep guests engaged with treatment and having fun while there. They have volleyball and basketball courts, a weight room, softball fields, and outdoor fields. Our Home also maintains partnerships with local community centers that provide access to exercise and wellness opportunities.
