About Firstep Men’s Recovery Program
Located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma is Firstep, a long-term recovery program for men living with substance use disorder. One unique thing about them is that there are no out-of-pocket expenses for the client. The program is fully funded by community partnerships and resident’s full-time employment at work training sites in the community.
Besides employment, the sober living community provides access to outpatient clinical services, individual and group counseling, relapse prevention education, DHS-approved parenting classes, life skills, 12 Step programs, peer support, and onsite GED classes. Unfortunately, families are unable to stay on campus with clients. However, after 30 days clients are eligible for weekly visits, and after 90 days day passes become available.
Clients are encouraged to go at their own pace, with the minimum time in the program being six months, but clients can stay for up to two years if needed. After graduating from the Firstep program, graduate housing is available, which is sober living for those who still need assistance finding their feet. Graduates are helped to find employment and housing outside the program, and figure out financial planning.
