About Odyssey House George Rosenfeld Center for Recovery

The Odyssey House George Rosenfeld Center for Recovery is a behavioral health treatment facility for women and older adults in New York City, New York. Their primary focus is helping individuals overcome substance abuse. The residential facility has 231 beds available and is located within a 480-acre city park on Wards Island between East Harlem, South Bronx, and Queens.

In residential care, staff members will create an individual treatment plan for you where you’ll receive holistic, evidence based care. One of the treatments you may start with is medication assisted treatment (MAT). Staff members will assess you to determine what medication and dosage is appropriate. For heroin or opioid abuse disorders, you’ll either be prescribed buprenorphine or naltrexone. For alcohol disorders, you may be prescribed either naltrexone, Campral or Antabuse.

These medications will be used along with counseling, behavioral therapies, community based services and recovery support. One service I like they provide for all residential treatment clients is their onsite educational services, job skills training and job placement assistance. You’ll receive vocational assessments, ongoing education and vocational tests to determine your ideal job, and counseling to help you be successful on the job. The staff will also refer you to community resources that can provide additional vocational and education training.

All clients are able to have access to the recovery network of fellow alumni after they’ve completed treatment. A trained volunteer with personal experience overcoming addiction can provide you with personal coaching. The center’s park grounds can also offer some respite for exercising and relaxation.

Affordable housing can sometimes be difficult for clients to find after completing treatment. The center can provide you with safe, supportive housing options, with permanent housing available to formerly homeless families and individuals.
