About Oakland County Community Corrections

Oakland County Community Corrections operates the Step Forward program in Pontiac, Michigan providing community based outpatient services for justice involved adults through Oakland County Pretrial & Justice Services.

The program serves court referred clients with substance use concerns, co-occurring mental health needs and criminogenic risk factors through assessment, case management and structured group programming.

Step Forward offers a public sector pathway that pairs accountability with recovery support, helping clients address the root causes of justice involvement while building skills for lasting change.

Court Connected SUD Treatment

Step Forward specializes in outpatient substance use treatment for adults referred by courts or probation, including OWI III clients and participants in the Adult Treatment Court track.

Intake begins with a COMPAS assessment and personal interview to determine eligibility and shape an individualized service plan.

Treatment incorporates cognitive behavioral therapy through Thinking Matters, Carey Guide skill building exercises and substance abuse groups.

Adult Treatment Court participants engage in treatment sessions, AA or NA meetings, random drug and alcohol screens, and bi-weekly status reviews with case managers monitoring progress and coordinating referrals.

Support for Behavioral Health and Legal Needs

Beyond substance use, Step Forward addresses co-occurring mental health concerns and trauma, anger management and domestic violence through specialized groups.

I want to note that offerings include Safety from Trauma, women in crisis groups and co-occurring tracks designed to support clients facing overlapping behavioral health and legal challenges.

Access and Getting Started

Step Forward serves Oakland County through two locations, with the Pontiac office at 250 Elizabeth Lake Road open Monday through Thursday until 7:30 p.m. and Fridays until 5:00 p.m.

I think it's important to add the program is embedded within Oakland County Pretrial & Justice Services, offering structured assessment tools like COMPAS alongside evidence based correctional case planning.
