About Northwood Childrens Services
Northwood Children's Services is a private nonprofit children's behavioral health organization in Duluth, Minnesota, providing outpatient, residential and psychiatric residential care for youth with significant emotional, behavioral and learning challenges.
The organization offers diagnostic assessment, individual and family therapy, skills training, psychiatric consultation and CBT informed care for children, adolescents and select adult clients.
Since 1883, Northwood has built its approach around positive development and asset building, helping young people grow within structured, supportive environments alongside their families.
Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health in Duluth
I like that Northwood specializes in intensive mental health treatment for children and teens facing complex emotional and behavioral needs.
Outpatient services welcome youth ages 0 to 21 years and include diagnostic testing, individual, group and family therapy, psychological testing and telehealth visits.
Sessions are tailored to each child's clinical diagnosis and developmental stage, with multidisciplinary teams coordinating care across therapists, psychiatrists, educators and families.
Parents have shared that having therapy, education and support services on one campus helps their children stay engaged in school while making real progress.
Residential and Psychiatric Treatment for Youth
For children ages 5 to 17 years who need higher levels of care, Northwood operates a Qualified Residential Treatment Program and a Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility.
These programs combine 24 hour structured living in small, family like teams with individual therapy, group therapy, family work, recreation, creative arts and on site education.
Access, Locations and Getting Started
I'm impressed that Northwood serves families through its Main Campus at 714 W. College Street and its West Campus at 4000 W. 9th Street in Duluth, with telehealth available for outpatient clients across Minnesota.
Services are funded through Minnesota Medical Assistance and most private health insurance plans, with additional payment options reported through third party sources.
