About NorthStar Regional Sugar Creek Campus
NorthStar Regional is an integrated behavioral healthcare provider with seven locations in five cities in Minnesota. They help people with mental health and substance use issues take steps toward a brighter future. Their Sugar Creek campus in Chaska has two facilities offering intensive outpatient programs (IOP) for co-occurring disorders. This facility at 1055 Stoughton Avenue is a men’s co-occurring IOP with lodging.
You can consider this program if you’re an adult male struggling with co-occurring disorders. A co-occurring disorder is when you’re diagnosed with dual mental health and substance use disorder. This live-in facility offers holistic care that handles addiction, mental problems and psychiatric issues simultaneously.
Chaska is a city in Carver County and is 25 miles southwest of downtown Minneapolis. The facility is situated at the heart of Chaska. This makes accessing services not provided in the residence easy. Lake Minnewashta Regional Park is just about five miles southwest of the facility. Major attractions here include hiking trails, fishing and picnic areas. This can be a suitable place to unwind and connect with nature during recreational times outside the lodge, like Schalow Park. That’s if you’re into nature stuff, though.
NorthStar Regional is a member of the Chaska Community Center. This features an award winning aquatics area, gymnasiums and racquetball courts. They’ve strength equipment, cardio machines and group fitness classes here as well. This is where most residents exercise and unwind during recreational hours.
The facility itself boasts a spacious living room, a meeting room, and a clean kitchen. Each room is shared by two residents. They provide food, bedding and laundry supplies like detergents. You’re expected to bring your own personal items like toiletries, two weeks' worth of clothing and towels among others.
The program is made up of three phases beginning with assessment and treatment planning. The first phase involves 20+ hours of group programming. This includes nine hours with your primary counselor in the day or evening IOP group. This first phase also includes five hours of meditation and life skills groups plus two hours of coping skills groups. You’re required to attend a weekly individual session with your primary counselor. Additionally you must attend 3 to 5 abstinence based sober support group meetings weekly.
You’ll move into phase two as your ASAM 6 dimension severity rating decreases. This phase involves 10 hours of group programming. You’re expected to have 12 Step sponsors at this stage. As you progress further in your recovery, you’ll be moved to phase 3 or aftercare group. This group meets two hours weekly and requires 12 sessions to complete. You’ll also attend regular support meetings, get a sponsor and stick to your care plan.
Their wraparound services may include help with stable housing for homeless patients, vocational skills training/job placement and medical care. They can link you to community resources where you can access these services. They provide referrals to other services relevant to your recovery as well.
