About Behavioral Medicine Services

The Behavioral Medicine Services unit at Norman Regional Health System was an inpatient floor in the general hospital located in Norman, Oklahoma. While they no longer provide inpatient care, Norman Regional is open seven days a week and has partnered with a local nationally recognized behavioral health provider to provide inpatient and outpatient services in South Central Oklahoma.

Wide Range of Services Were Offered

When they were open, the unit offered mental health treatment and psychotropic medication services to the local population within a general hospital setting. This ensured that you had access not only to mental health services but also to physical support and care.

They also offered day treatment options to address mental health conditions that are associated with substance use disorders, like skin conditions and wound care. I like that they offered caregiver and family therapy options to meet your needs.

Specialized Program for Seniors

They accepted referrals for admission and in their outpatient programs throughout the community, serving adults aged 18 and older. They had a specialized care program for seniors to address the unique needs they often experience. I saw that part of their treatment services were co-occurring disorders, including substance use and mental health conditions.

I like that they also offered symptom and medication education and management to help you understand your condition. Misunderstandings about your health or mental health can be a barrier to compliance with treatment. They accepted most private health insurance plans and worked with Medicaid and Medicare.
