Washington Fundraiser Backs New Peer-Led Recovery Ranch

Washington Fundraiser Backs New Peer-Led Recovery Ranch

A free fundraiser with live music took place in Port Angeles, Washington. The event raised money for one of the newest efforts to address a persistent local gap which is long-term recovery support after detox.

Dixon’s Recovery Ranch & Outreach is a 501(c)(3) organization founded by Miklo Dixon. The group held the event at Studio Bob on September 6.

Studio Bob donated the space and the band, Funkligula, donated its music. Organizers asked only for donations.

Clallam County does not have its own detox facility. Organizations like Dixon’s Recovery Ranch can help bridge that gap, and connect residents with free rehab options they can actually reach.

What Dixon’s Recovery Ranch Plans to Build

Dixon first came to the area for a certified nursing assistant program. He later worked at and founded what is now Sequim Bay Post Acute, with the goal of helping people stay connected throughout the recovery journey.

The organization plans to develop its work in two phases. Phase one will provide peer-led outreach recovery navigation connections to existing treatment and community resources, transportation assistance, continuity of care, discharge coordination and reentry support.

Phase two will focus on building a structured peer driven residential recovery environment that supports long term stability. Dixon deliberately emphasizes peer leadership.

“Studies have shown it’s easier for those going through recovery to speak to somebody who has already been through it” Dixon said.

The ranch property will give people in recovery a place to live while they rebuild basic life skills. Residents will also receive therapy and participate in vocational and reintegration training.

The Local Gap in Clallam County

Dixon identified a difficult local reality, which is that the area has no detox facilities. People who receive medically assisted detox elsewhere often want to return home.

However structured housing options remain limited. Oxford House meets only part of that need.

“After you’ve been homeless for a long time you get out of the habit of getting up; basic hygiene is hard” Dixon said.

“So you get them back into the routine of self love understanding reaching out for support basic life skills financial budgeting and engaging with other human beings.”
