Virginia Launches Free Platform to Find Addiction Treatment

Virginia families facing a treatment decision now have a free and confidential tool to help them choose care. The state has launched Treatment Atlas, an online platform that lets people search for and compare addiction treatment providers across Virginia.

The nonprofit organization Shatterproof partnered with the Virginia Department of Social Services and 211 Virginia to create the platform at TreatmentAtlas.org.

The tool focuses on the details that can shape a person’s recovery. Users can compare providers by their use of proven treatments, the insurance plans they accept, medications for opioid use disorder, the groups they serve, transportation help and other indications of access and quality.

“Finding quality addiction treatment should not depend on guesswork” said Pam Jenkins CEO of Shatterproof. “Families are often forced to make treatment decisions during moments of crisis yet it can be incredibly difficult to know which programs provide evidence based care.”

She said families already face enough pressure during a crisis without having to question whether a program delivers on its promises.

How the Platform Helps Families Compare Care

Virginia’s launch makes transparency a tool for better public health. Before Treatment Atlas families looking for rehab in Virginia often turned to provider websites or word of mouth.

Neither source reliably shows whether a program uses proven treatments or accepts a family’s insurance.

Treatment Atlas gives families a clearer way to compare options. They can search for providers that offer medication for opioid use disorder serve specific groups or help with transportation. These details can shape the outcome.

A rural Virginian without a car may struggle to reach a program that offers medication assisted treatment. The platform helps families spot that barrier before they make a crisis call or face a failed admission.

The state also connects the platform to 211 Virginia which handles requests for help every day. “By integrating Treatment Atlas into 211 Virginia we’re creating a more accessible pathway to both community based and clinical recovery resources” said Duke Storen commissioner of the Virginia Department of Social Services.

Healthcare systems and community organizations can also use the platform to guide people toward care that fits their needs.

Why Cost and Transparency Matter

For most families the first questions about treatment are practical. How much does it cost? What will insurance cover? And can they trust the program to provide good care?

Treatment Atlas helps users assess provider quality and find programs that fit their insurance coverage. That matters because cost often keeps people from seeking addiction treatment or leads them to put it off.

If you are looking for treatment in Virginia you can use Treatment Atlas for free and keep your search confidential. Specialists at 211 Virginia can also help you navigate the options.

If you lack insurance or have limited coverage you can still find free and low cost rehab programs. Check which providers accept Medicaid or offer sliding scale fees to narrow your search. Call 800-914-7089 (Info iconSponsored) to find care you can afford.
