Oklahoma Run Aims to Raise $20,000 for Family Addiction Care

Oklahoma was the site of a fundraising run that spanned 265 miles in the name of free addiction care. The goal was to raise $20,000 to support families with needs that extend beyond rehab. The run benefits the Edmond nonprofit Peaceful Family Oklahoma. The organization provides trauma-informed addiction care at no cost to families.

On October 23, Eli Morin was scheduled to start the run at the Texas border. His planned run would finish on October 26 at the Kansas border.

The route included communities such as Oklahoma City, Norma, Edmond and Ardmore. Supporters were also invited to run alongside Eli through portions of the journey. They could also contribute online through Peaceful Family Oklahoma’s website, PeacefulFamilyOK.org.

How This Event Helps Families Beyond Rehab

Addiction affects not only the individual but it impacts the family members helping the person through recovery.

Although rehab can be helpful, family members still need education and trauma-informed support. Morin chose to run for this organization’s cause because he wanted to help people directly affected by addiction.

The organizers hope to complete the run in under 87 hours and 47 minutes, which is the current known time of the fastest crossing of Oklahoma.
