A new foundation, in Roaring Brook Township in Lackawanna County, is building a safety net that formal treatment can’t always provide.
The organization offers free community funded recovery support without intake paperwork. It launched this month, and held its first fundraiser with a charity golf tournament.
The foundation honors a local businessman who died last year after a long battle with substance abuse. WBRE/WYOU and Yahoo News covered the September 28, 2026 tournament and brought attention to the new organization in the community it hopes to serve.
The Foundation’s Early Plans
The program is still new but its founders already have a goal that by this time next year, they’ll get to share stories about how the foundation has helped people battling substance abuse.
Community recovery organizations often provide practical help that makes treatment and long term recovery easier. That can include treatment costs and transportation as well as recovery housing deposits and holiday support for children whose parents are in treatment.
The foundation hasn’t published its full giving criteria yet. Its focus so far points toward direct person to person support.

Formal treatment can save lives but cost and transportation can make it difficult to access or maintain. Community organizations can help cover the smaller expenses that stand between someone and recovery.

Recovery community organizations can provide peer support and help people navigate treatment at no cost.
