Families in Sussex County, Delaware, searching for free rehabs near me or low-cost addiction support now have a new option on the horizon.
Be a Part of the Conversation, a nonprofit founded in 2011, is expanding into southern Delaware to fill a long-standing gap in free family-focused recovery services.
Why Sussex County Has Been Underserved
Southern Delaware has historically received fewer treatment and support resources than the northern part of the state.
Kathy Greeley, the organization’s Delaware program manager and a woman in long-term recovery herself, noted that services often filter down from Wilmington last, leaving Sussex County families with fewer places to turn.
“We have so many more resources in the Wilmington area than we do down here,” Greeley said. “Things come into the state and they start north and they come south, and we’re kind of the last ones to get those resources.”
What Free Recovery Programs Will Be Offered
After securing new funding, the nonprofit plans to launch a free family recovery course in Sussex County. Key offerings will include:
- Parent Partnership Meetings — Peer-led gatherings specifically for parents, grandparents and guardians of people with addiction (regardless of the loved one’s age)
- Family education sessions on substance use, addiction, vaping and gambling behaviors
- Connection to local recovery resources for families who need referrals but don’t know where to start
The group is not a clinical treatment provider, but it bridges a critical gap. It helps families understand addiction and access the right help.
Research from the National Library of Medicine confirms that peer support can reduce stigma and improve outcomes, especially when families can speak with others who have lived through similar experiences.
Who Qualifies for These Free Resources
These programs are open to any family member affected by a loved one’s addiction, parents, grandparents, guardians and other relatives.
There are no income requirements or insurance needed, making this a genuinely free option for underserved communities.
Greeley said she understood the need firsthand: “There weren’t any family meetings for just parents.
There weren’t a lot of resources for people to go and get information as to what addiction was, how it affects families, what you can do to get help.”
The nonprofit introduced its expansion at a community open house in Georgetown, Delaware, on March 5.
