Naaman’s Recovery Village is a free-faith based rehab in North Carolina helping men overcome substance use disorders through structured residential programs.
This center in High Point offers long-term residential rehab support that combines Christian-based guidance with opportunities to develop practical skills.
Inside a Free Faith-Based Rehab Program
Rick Lewis, Chairman of the Board, reports that Naaman’s Recovery Village invests deeply in each participant. Many residents arrive after struggling with addiction for decades.
Lewis emphasizes that meaningful change can occur unexpectedly: “You just never know when it’s the time … that the light bulb is going to go on.”
In this case, faith is the specialized approach that switches on those bulbs. Naaman’s name references a biblical story in which a leper follows instructions from a prophet to wash repeatedly in the Jordan River and is then healed.
The program draws inspiration from that story, and spiritual activities make up the core of the curriculum. Lewis notes, “We have Bible studies, devotionals, usually a half an hour to an hour.” Many guys go to Sunday worship and throughout the week as well.
Vocational Training During Residential Rehab
Residents can also partake in vocation programs that create items like tumblers, mugs and window decals. A recent grant of $27,000 from the High Point Community Foundation funded three embroidery machines to increase production capacity.
The workshop is supervised by director Edward Bradley and it helps the men develop work habits and gain job experience.
Residents aren’t paid during the program. Lewis explains, “They don’t earn a wage, but we don’t charge anything while they’re here.”
Once participants secure outside employment, they accrue a minimum weekly rent to get in the habit of paying bills.
Prepping for Long-Term Recovery After Rehab
Lewis says the program aims to create lasting impact, even after they graduate or enter a sober living facility for additional guidance.
“We never know when somebody comes and they stay a little while, they stay a long while, what kind of impact we might have, but we know we’re going to have an impact.”
