For people who cannot afford traditional treatment, free rehabs can feel impossible to find. In North Minneapolis, a community-based nonprofit is proving that accessible, judgment-free care is possible.
Anything Helps MN, a recovery community organization (RCO) on the city’s North Side, provides a range of no-cost services to people living with addiction, mental illness and homelessness.
What Anything Helps MN Offers at No Cost
Founded by Emanuel Roberts, who has himself experienced addiction, homelessness and incarceration Anything Helps MN operates a welcoming community hub where staff provide free food, safer drug-use supplies like clean syringes and smoking kits, mental health resources and peer recovery support.
The organization’s model is built around meeting people where they are, without requiring sobriety or insurance as a condition of receiving help.
That approach, known as harm reduction, prioritizes keeping people alive and connected to care until they are ready for the next step in recovery.
Every third Wednesday, the hub hosts a Wellness Wednesday event where partners from Fairview offer over-the-counter medications and blood pressure testing and NorthPoint Health provides rapid hepatitis and HIV testing.
On Fridays, a Minneapolis medical health bus parks outside the building, giving visitors private access to a doctor without having to visit a clinic.
Who Qualifies for Free or Low-Cost Treatment
No income verification or insurance is required to access Anything Helps MN’s services. The organization serves anyone experiencing addiction, mental health challenges, or homelessness.
Roberts describes the harm reduction philosophy as “radical love.” He expressed that it’s a front-line commitment to making people feel human again, particularly those whom other service providers overlook.
