Faith-Based Recovery Home for Women Breaks Ground in Florida

A new option for women who cannot afford treatment is taking shape on the Florida Panhandle.

Mercy Multiplied broke ground Thursday on a 30,000-square-foot facility in Santa Rosa Beach. They’re extending their free, faith-based program to a region its founder says has waited nearly two decades for a location.

A Long-Planned Expansion

The organization bought the property in 2007 and intends to build debt-free, funded entirely by donations. No federal money is involved, with completion targeted for 2028.

Mercy Multiplied was founded in 1983 and houses women ages 13 to 32 free of charge for a six- to nine-month program addressing abuse, addiction and mental health.

About 5,000 young women have come through the program, according to founder Nancy Alcorn. “They’re overcomers now. They can be world-changers, history-makers,” she said.

Designing for Dignity

Alcorn is specific about the environment she wants: “Homey, non-institutional, and I want everything the young women to see to speak to them that they have value and they deserve something so special.”

Who Qualifies

No-cost programs in Florida are rare relative to need. Women searching for rehab centers on the Panhandle should also look at state-funded options through Florida’s Department of Children and Families, sliding-scale nonprofits and Medicaid-accepting programs.
