About New Mexico Corrections Department
New Mexico Men’s Recovery Academy is a mental health and addiction treatment program operated by the New Mexico Corrections Department. It's based in Los Lunas, New Mexico. The program is located onsite at the city's Central New Mexico Correctional Facility.
Addiction Treatment and Drug Court
One goal of incarceration is to provide men with the tools they need to be ready for re-entry into their communities. For men who struggle with substance use disorders, I think it’s critical to have a handle on addiction before going home.
In addition to evidence based addiction treatment, men who are within 18 months of release can apply to participate in the Reentry Drug Court program. This program for nonviolent offenders and participants is closely supervised by a District Court Judge and the Department’s Probation and Parole Division.
Mental Healthcare for Incarcerated Men
The need for mental healthcare doesn’t stop during incarceration, and I’m grateful that the New Mexico Corrections Department provides comprehensive treatment for the men under its care. The first step is a complete evaluation to help staff design a customized treatment plan.
Treatment at New Mexico Men’s Recovery Academy includes a blend of individual and group therapy in an outpatient setting. From my perspective, having programs like this is essential. There’s a lot of value in offering mental health services that address the unique challenges men face while incarcerated.
