About New Directions

New Directions runs an alcohol and drug rehab in Stockton, California. They offer residential and outpatient programs based on 12 Step principles to address substance abuse. Their spacious campus sits on a sprawling 2.5 acre property with tons of places for you to relax and rest in between treatment sessions.

They provide gender separate accommodations for 44 men and 30 women. Treatment lasts for about six months in most cases. Once you’re enrolled, you’ll be required to stay on campus unless you have a medical or legal appointment elsewhere.

Compassionate Care for Special Populations

I think it’s beneficial that New Directions often works with parolees who have long histories of criminal and substance use concerns. They also serve pregnant women and parents involved with CPS who are in the process of regaining custody of their kids.

You can participate in various proven and supplemental services that meet you where you are in recovery. Nutrition and parenting classes, family reunification assistance, domestic violence courses, academic assistance and more are available.

Frequent Family Visits and Sessions

Their care team understands that extended treatment can be hard on your family unit. For this reason, they allow phone calls and mail from the moment you’re enrolled. They also allow family visits with supervision, if necessary.

You can catch up with your loved ones and share your recovery wins. I really appreciated that they have dedicated children’s visiting areas and play spaces you can use to connect with your kids when they visit.

Proximity to Recovery Communities

Something neat I noticed about New Directions is that they’re close to several churches, including Fellowship Church Community across the road. This popular church for people in recovery hosts frequent meetings so you can connect with peers.

You’ll have easy access to AA and NA meetings, as well as a community of people who understand what you’re going through. And since the New Directions building used to be a Bible College, you get to play a subtle homage to its beginnings.
