About New Choices Recovery Center James F Purcell House
Located in Schenectady, New York, just two blocks south of downtown, is the New Choices Recovery Center James F. Purcell House. This is a residential sober living home for men who need safe and supportive housing as they navigate recovery from their substance use struggles. Typical stays are 4-6 months.
This nondescript recovery home is situated in a residential neighborhood and you're close to various shops, parks, and other community spaces. You'll find a structured environment here, but you'll have the freedom to practice independent living by going to work and school, and engaging in community activities which will help you form healthy habits that will help promote your sobriety.
While living here, you’ll also have access to the different services offered through the New Choices Recovery Center network. Many of the men here are still undergoing treatment at the outpatient clinic. Treatment is supplemented by the home-like atmosphere, with hardwood floors, casual decor, a full kitchen and backyard, and room for fellowship. Jerry Burrell Park is close by if you like to unwind and clear your mind.
There’s also onsite counseling as well where you can continue receiving support for your addiction struggles without having to leave home. You'll work with prevention coordinators, clinicians, peer advocates, and a case manager while living here. With these wraparound services, you'll have a team who’ll help you develop an aftercare plan for a smooth and healthy transition once you leave the program.
For many people, aftercare planning means participating in employment readiness activities and skills training. You’ll establish a strong foundation of what it means to seek and maintain gainful employment.
New Choices Recovery Center has a large network within the region and will support you in ways outside of its residential recovery program.
For example, they have housing services that will pair you with resources for different affordable housing options once you leave the James F. Purcell House. By helping alleviate this barrier, you're more likely to continue the momentum you’ve built in residential treatment, helping you maintain a sober and healthy lifestyle.
