Serving a Diverse Clientele in Pelham, Georgia

The county mental health service welcomes a diverse set of clients. The treatment programs are accredited by The Joint Commission. They treat families, adolescents and adults.

The treatment center is about a mile from downtown Pelham, where the city is revitalizing this historic area. I like that there are also nearby parks with recreational facilities and green spaces.

Clients include individuals with co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders. They welcome LGBTQ+ clients, criminal justice clients, service members and veterans. Additionally, they welcome pregnant and postpartum women and those with past trauma, such as sexual abuse and domestic violence.

Emphasizing A Community Based Care Treatment Model

The treatment team emphasizes community based care with continuity of care and the involvement of citizens. They work to reduce hospitalizations while assisting clients to maintain their stability so they can remain independent in daily living.

They use evidence based treatment modalities, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing (MI) and brief interventions. They facilitate 12 step groups and offer substance use disorder counseling.

Many clients turn to substance use and misuse to deal with a traumatic past. The counselors use trauma related counseling to help clients identify past wounds so they can address and process them for a better treatment outcome. All clients work on relapse prevention plans.
